Overview
Holden Youth Soccer League, Inc. (HYS) is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1979. HYS has been serving the families of Holden since 1967. Currently, we serve up to 800 youth players annually from Holden and surrounding towns. HYS provides year-round program opportunities for ages U6 thru U18, utilizing an estimated 5,200 outdoor field-hours per year across fall and spring. In addition to the core soccer activities we run, we also raise $3,000+ in scholarship money annually in support of one or more graduating seniors from the Wachusett region, and we conduct community-based training for young athletes with disabilities (TOPSoccer). We also employ local youth players as referees and field liners throughout the year.
We have a long and successful history of working with the Town of Holden, the Wachusett Regional School District, and local community organizations. We also work regularly with the Holden Department of Recreation and other sports organizations to provide the youth of Holden with healthy and competitive athletic options. We annually support non-profit organizations like the Helping Hearts Foundation and school fundraisers.
Our Mission
We aim to foster a passion for soccer in children by creating an enjoyable, supportive, and productive environment at practices and games. By providing a positive experience and helping kids develop their skills, we hope to encourage kids to keep playing and enjoying soccer…a game that provides a lot of exercise, independent thinking, mental and physical challenges, collaboration and socialization, and–most importantly–fun!
Why Fields Are Needed
One of the key issues HYS faces in bringing soccer to kids is the lack of sufficient field space. HYS competes for field space with multiple youth programs, including Wachusett Youth Flag Football, Wachusett Youth Lacrosse, Field Hockey and Softball. Inclement weather and reduced daylight in fall and spring further reduce access to fields. At this time it is nearly impossible for HYS to service all of the youth who wish to participate in our programs.
Vision
Holden Youth Soccer’s vision is to create a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose field complex in Holden that will consist of two regulation soccer fields on a 12-acre parcel of land on Bullard Street abutting Mayo School. This complex will include synthetic turf fields, public restrooms, a concessions building, and ample parking. Our goal is to begin construction on the project in spring of 2018, but doing so will require significant financial and resource support from individuals and businesses within the community.
