The Holden Youth Soccer Grade 5/6 Girls Division 2 team participated in the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC) in June and completed an undefeated season with two thrilling overtime victories on Sunday to win the state championship.

In the regular season, the team posted an 8-0 record, allowing only one goal. They went on to win the Midland Area Youth Soccer Championship, defeating previously unbeaten Charlton in the finals and qualifying for MTOC.

Held in Lancaster, MTOC featured 12 regional champions from the across Massachusetts. Holden went 2-0-1 in preliminary play, winning their group and securing a spot in the final four. In the semifinals, they scored in overtime to defeat Middleboro 1-0. The championship game against Monson went to a penalty-kick shootout, with the game tied 1-1 after regulation and overtime. Holden prevailed 3-2 in the shootout to become the first team from the town to win the state title.

“100% of the credit goes these players,” said Head Coach Mike George. “They faced challenges together and committed to their teammates. They played hard for each other and they earned it.”

“Holden Youth Soccer works to create a positive environment for players to develop,” added Assistant Coach Jon-Paul St. Germain. “It’s part of our philosophy. We challenge them, but always in a positive way. The girls created a strong bond, and their dedication to each other really showed on the field.”

Players are Ava Bembenek, Julia Bembenek, Ella Bradshaw, Julia Brennan, Sophia Diloreto, Kyra Diman, Elizabeth Foley, Emma George, Madison Grignon, Ava Jaslowich, Emily Ojeikere, Renee Rettig, Amanda Roy, Ashley Slavin and Anna St. Germain. Coach George was also assisted by Steve Jaslowich and Doug Roy.
